PS4 Not Turning On? Try My PS4 Fix!

Experiencing the PS4 Blue Light of Death? If Your PS4 won’t turn on, I may have a fix for you!

When the PlayStation 4 (PS4) was released in late 2013, many users reported encountering what is now known as the PlayStation Blue Light of Death. What is the PS4 Blue Light of Death? It’s a general fault error indicated by a pulsing blue light from the console. When this happens, typically there’s no video or audio output from the Ps4. You may also observe that the PS4 turns on then off.

This issue doesn’t happen as often as it use to. It can happen for a variety of reasons. In this article, I provide you with the steps that appear to address a specific issue with HDMI syncing. The fix doesn’t require checking or swapping cables.  The fix doesn’t require doing anything with the hard drive.  I was basically able to fix the PS4 Blue Light of Death in a couple minutes.

This solution doesn’t help everyone.  In my opinion, the fix is worth a try as long as you heed the warnings. Hopefully, we will get your PS4 white light back again! See the step by step directions below.

How to Fix the PS4 Blue Light of Death

Below is a step by step guide I used to solve the PS4 Blue Light of Death:

WARNING: My fix includes the step of connecting the HDMI cable while the TV and the PS4 are on. This may cause damage to the TV or PS4.  Follow these instructions at your own risk!!! Safer, but untested alternative methods are below as well.

  1. Power off your PS4 by pressing the power button until the PS4 powers off.  You know the PS4 is off when the light is off.  Be certain the PS4 is off before you continue.
  2. Unplug all of the cables from the PS4.  This includes the power cable, HDMI cable, USB cable, optical cable, etc.
  3. Plug in the power cable and no other cable.  That’s right, do not plug in the HDMI cable yet.
  4. Press the power button until the PS4 beeps twice.  It will beep, then beep again in a few seconds.  A few seconds later, the blue light will turn white!  If it does not, this PS4 Blue Light of Death fix will not work for you.
  5. Next, I plugged in the HDMI cable while the PS4 was displaying the white light and the TV was on.  WARNING: Connecting the HDMI port while the TV or the PS4 is on may cause damage to the TV or PS4.  Follow these instructions at your own risk!!!!
  6. An alternative method would be to first turn off the PS4 and turn off an unplug the TV. Connect the HDMI cable to the PS4 and the TV,  Power on the PS4 by holding the power button until it beeps twice, see the white light, THEN plug in and turn on the TV.
  7. A third option would be to select a different source on your TV, see the white light on the PS4, then select the appropriate HDMI source on the TV.  Please note that I have not tested any of these alternative methods as I do not currently have a BLOD PS4 near by.
  8. Make sure you select the corresponding HDMI input on your TV.  You should then see on the screen a prompt to plug in the USB cable and Dual Shock controller.  Please do so.  You will now be in PS4 Safe Mode.PS4 Won't Turn On - PS4 Blue Light of Death Fix Playstation 4
  9. On the safe mode screen, select 2. Change Resolution.  Then click ok.  The PS4 will then restart.
  10. At this point, you should reach the PS4 Setup.  If not, repeat the steps above and try 6. Initialize PS4.
  11. If you still don’t reach the PS4 Setup, and your PS4 won’t turn on, I was not able to fix your PS4 Blue Light of Death.  Contact Sony for a replacement.
  12. If you do reach the PS4 Setup, follow all the steps.  Be certain to update the system software to at least 1.51.  After 1.51 is installed, test shutting down and turning on the PS4 to ensure that the BLoD has been fixed.

The Never Have I Ever questions game is an awesome party game you should try at your next get-together. It’s a great way to discover fun facts about the people you know and love. It’s also a great way to break the ice and get a party off the ground.

How do you play? Players take turns saying “Never have I ever”, followed by an act they have never done. All of the other players must then indicate whether or not they have performed the act.

For example, one could say “Never have I ever been pulled over by a cop”. If any of the other players have been pulled over by a cop, they would be required to do one of the following:

  • Raise their hand and explain their answer.
  • Take a drink.
  • Eat a piece of candy or junk food.
  • Something else fun.

The goal is to get players to reveal something interesting about themselves. The more revealing the better. The game isn’t over until someone is drunk, stuffed, or super embarrassed!

In this article, we put together a massive list of Never Have I Ever Questions, separated into the following categories. Feel free to use them at your next party or get-together.

Fans of HBO’s hit original series Westworld got a nice surprise at San Diego’s Comic-Con 2017- a short trailer for the upcoming season.

Sadly, new episodes of Westworld will not start until 2018. Shooting for the new season has just begun. In fact, reports indicate that the trailer was created using footage from only seven days of shooting.

The new Apple Music service provides news users with a free three month trial. Apple initially planned not to pay artists during these first three months. This is good news for subscribers but bad news for artists.

That plan changed yesterday, thanks to Taylor Swift.

In a spirited letter posted online, Swift lashed out at Apple for it’s plan to deprive artists of royalty payments for the entire duration of the three month free trial. Of note, most paid music subscription services only offer one free month.

Just hours after Taylor Swift’s letter went viral, Apple’s content chief Eddy Cue announced that the policy would be changed and that artists would be paid.

It’s not often that we see a Fortune 500 company essentially back down from pressure from an individual celebrity. The immediacy of the action is even more shocking. Apple could have taken its time before responding to Swift. Heck, Apple didn’t have to respond at all!

I suspect their swift decision was a calculated one. They essentially will be able to end the controversy and bad publicity before it ever gets started. This way they can launch their new music service without any of the negative noise.

I have to give Taylor Swift props for standing up for all artists. After all, she didn’t have to say anything. She obviously doesn’t need the money herself. For her selfless act, and the immediate impact she made, Taylor Swift is my Hero of the Week!

Apple Music

Let’s also commend Apple for doing the right thing as well. Apple could have stuck to their guns and not change their policy.  They could have changed the policy while also reducing the free trial (this still could happen later). For now, it looks like Apple is going to foot the bill for those free three months. I’ll definitely be signing up. First on the playlist? Taylor Swift’s 1989 of course!

When you open your kitchen cupboard, what do you see? Until recently mine contained a somewhat loosely fitting collection of plates, bowls and drinking glasses.

All that changed when I courageously volunteered to host a dinner for my friend Rosie who was moving to Portland with a new job and a new boyfriend.

It was a small occasion but one of great importance. Rosie had worked very hard to arrive at this stage in her life and I wanted to mark the moment.

I wanted to have a cosy dinner for five of our closest friends. Everything was set, except, well, the stage.

It ended up that, even for this small group,  I did not have the necessary number of plates and cutlery to serve the dinner. So while in my head I envisioned a beautifully dressed table, the reality was much different.

My mismatched set of mugs, bowls and plates could not produce what I had envisioned.  This is when I decided that for future gatherings as well as my own pleasure, I would get rid of all the bowls, numerous mugs and few plates I had accumulated since my freshman year in college, and invest in a proper, fresh,“grownup” set.

I ended up getting two of the sets you see below.  The green set from Waechtersbach Fun Factory, and for days where I felt more whimsical, the Lenox Simply Fine Chirp. Yes, it was a lot to spend in “Plates and cups”, but I felt it was about time to up my game.

Before I made my choice, here are the sets that I looked at:

Five
Waechtersbach Fun Factory

Waechtersbach Fun Factory II Green Apple 4-Piece Dinnerware Set

This crisp apple green set includes a good size dinner plate, a desert plate, a sturdy bowl and mug.  On a daily basis, I use the desert plate, the bowl and the mug. Warning, this set is not recommended for the microwave, but it is dishwasher safe.   It rings in at about $33 for the set.  On a fun note, this label also offers the same set in orange and dark blue, so you can mix and match if you desire to do so.

  • Set includes one of each: 10-3/4 -Inch Dinner Plate,8-1/4-Inch Salad Plate, 20-Ounce Soup/Cereal Bowl and a jumbo mug
  • You can mix and match colors for a new table everyday
  • Not recommended for microwave or oven use
  • Dishwasher safe

Plate set, plate sets
Lenox

Lenox Simply Fine Chirp 4-Piece Place Setting

The second set I purchased was this one by Lenox, again, the price is a little stiff, but worth the investment.

It comes in at $85 for a set that includes a dinner plate, a dessert plate, a bowl and a medium sized mug.

Ok, I have to confess, this is the set that makes me the most happy, I just cannot get over the design variation on each of the pieces and the colors. It’s fine bone china but totally dishwasher safe and it is guaranteed to be chip resistant.

  • 4-piece place setting with enchanting watercolor scene
  • The set includes one each: dinner plate, luncheon/salad plate, all-purpose bowl, and 10-ounce cup
  • It’s crafted from fine bone china and guaranteed to be chip resistantCrafted from Lenox fine bone china; guaranteed chip resistant
  • It’s microwave, oven, freezer, and dishwasher safe

Gibson Home Vivendi

Gibson Home Vivendi 16-Piece Dinnerware Set, White

Black mat exterior and a contrasting white interior make this simple set very elegant.   For about $54, you get a 16 piece set, including a large dinner plate, a good size dessert place along with a large bowl and large mug.  I find that it is always nice to have a simple white interior as it will sublime most of anything you put in it.

  • The set includes four of each:10.5 Inch Dinner Plate, 4 Piece 8.2 Inch Dessert Plate, 4 Piece 8 Inch Bowl, 4 Piece 12oz Mug
  • This version contrasting black and white color combo

51Er2I88fuLPolish Pottery Flowering Peacock 16 Piece Dinner Set

This 16 piece in a typical creamy white and blue design is a fine example of the Boleslawiec polish pottery tradition. This set is simply gorgeous and is worthy of any Wedding registry. While you wait for such an occasion, you can purchase this set for a cool $326.  At least these are guaranteed to be microwave, dishwasher and oven safe. The manufacturer these are freezer safe, though I have no idea why you would put these in any freezer.

The 16 piece set includes 4 of each:. A dinner plates, a dessert plate, a soup bowl and a coffee mug

  • It is hand made in Poland
  • It is safe to use in microwave, dishwasher, freezer, oven

Creative co-op plate set, plate sets
Creative Co-op

Creative Co-op Birds and Bees 8.75-inch Stoneware Plates, Set of 4

This next piece is not a dinner set per say, but you get four dinner plates with four different but coordinated designs. I like this particular one which features bees and hive. The set of four plates will cost you $59.

  • The set includes for 8.75 inch in diameter plates
  • They are Microwave and Dishwasher safe
  • This set is designed by Tim Coffey for Creative Co-op.

Royal Albert, Plate sets, plate set
Royal Albert

Royal Albert

Royal Albert New Country Roses Pink Vintage Formal Place Setting

I had to include a dainty set in this selection. This pink ensemble,  by none other than Royal Albert, is something straight out of a Jane Austen novel.

Made out of fine bone china, it features an old country rose theme with a light gold highlight. For $99.99, you get a dinner plate, a salad plate, a bread and butter plate as well as a tea cup and saucer (of course).

  • The set includes one of each: Dinner, salad, butter plates, a tea cup and matching saucer
  • It is made out of bone china
  • It is still dishwasher safe

Even if I eat at my kitchen counter, usually out of a bowl, the experience is made that much more special when I use an item from my plate sets. There is something truly luxurious when you eat out of a real ceramic bowl, or even better, some fine bone china.   I am currently eyeing some cuttlery sets to go with the plates. I will be posting the result of my “research” in upcoming article. Until then, I hope you consider donating your current lot of plates and investing in a more beautiful dining set. Good luck!
