What Does Siri Stand for? (Apple Siri App) Sat, 02 Sep 2017 02:00:31 +0000 What does Siri stand for? Where did the Siri name came from? You'll be surprised by the answer! Read this article to find out.

The post What Does Siri Stand for? (Apple Siri App) appeared first on Geek Chic Daily.

If you are an iPhone or iPad user, by now you are familiar with Siri, Apple’s personal digital assistant app. This app allows you to give verbal commands to your iOS compatible device. You can ask Siri to make phones, send messages, manage your calendar, search the web, and a whole lot more. For information on how to use Siri, check out this article.

While you may already be acquainted with her many charms, you may not know where she got her name. In this article, we answer the questions, “what does Siri stand for” and “what does Siri mean.”

What does Siri Stand for?

Some say Siri stands for Speech Interpretation and Recognition Interface. This would be an awesome acronym considering that this is exactly what Siri does. However, I am skeptical about this being the case. If Siri was truly an acronym, wouldn’t Apple refer to the app as SIRI instead of Siri?

Also, I have yet to see Apple use the language “Speech Interpretation and Recognition Interface” any time it refers to Siri. Thus, I believe the Siri name came about in a different way (see below).

How to Use SiriWhere did the Siri name come from?

According to this Tech Crunch article, Siri’s co-founder, Dag Kittlaus came up with the name. Apparently, Siri means “beautiful woman who leads you to victory” in Norwegian. The Norway native Kittlaus wanted to name his daughter Siri. After his first born child was a boy, Kittlaus opted to use the name for the app.

When the Siri app was acquired by Apple, it wasn’t a foregone conclusion that Apple would keep the name. In the end, Apple decided to keep the name and the rest is history.

Are you a fan of the Siri App? Want to learn how to use Siri? Check out our full list of Siri commands. Also, check out our list of funny things to ask Siri.

How to perform a Microsoft Surface Factory Reset Tue, 20 Jan 2015 04:30:09 +0000 See Microsoft Surface factory reset instructions and other troubleshooting options.

The post How to perform a Microsoft Surface Factory Reset appeared first on Geek Chic Daily.

Having problems with your Microsoft Surface? Interested in performing a factory reset? Below you will find instructions on how to reset your MS Surface back to its original factory settings.

If you are interested in less destructive means of fixing your Microsoft Surface, consider updating the software or refreshing the software without affecting your personal files. All three methods are detailed below.

Warning: Before performing any of these steps, consider backing p your personal files. We are not responsible for any loss resulting from performing these steps. Do so at your own risk.

Perform a Windows Update on your Microsoft Surface

One thing I always try first when I encounter issues with an electronic gadget is to update the firmware. This is especially true for Windows as Microsoft frequently makes updates available to patch problems or address malware vulnerabilities. You can check for available updates for your Microsoft Surface by launching Windows Update. To do so, perform the following steps:

  1. Swipe from the right edge of the screen to display the Charms menu, tap Settings, and tap Change PC settings.
  2. Scroll down and tap Windows Update.
  3. Tap “Check for updates now“.
  4. If updates are available, follow the on screen instructions to perform the update.

As a good practice, after an update is performed, launch Windows Update again to see if additional updates are available. Sometimes updates depend on other updates so you may have to perform multiple updates before your Microsoft Surface is up to date. You should always consider trying Windows Update before performing a Factory Reset.

Refresh your Microsoft Surface

If you would like to”reset” your Surface without deleting your files, you can Refresh your Microsoft Surface. Performing a Refresh resets your Windows files. A refresh will not remove your photos, music or other personal files. A refresh will also not affect apps you have installed. To perform a refresh, do the following:

  1. Swipe from the right edge of the screen to display the Charms menu, tap Settings, and tap Change PC settings.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Scroll down to the section “Refresh your PC without affecting your files“.
  4. Follow the on screen instructions.

Microsoft Surface Factory Reset (Hard Reset)

If neither a Windows Update or Refreshing your Microsoft Surface fixes your tablet, you may want to consider performing a hard reset of your Surface. Please note that when you perform a Microsoft Surface Factory reset, all of your personal files will be deleted. Any apps that originally came with the MS Surface will be installed. All other apps will be removed and must be reinstalled manually.

Still Having Problems?

If you tried all of the steps above and your MS Surface is still not working, consider visiting the Answer Desk at your local local Microsoft Store. The Answer Desk provides a number of services including:

  • Performance Tune-up
  • Extended Diagnostics
  • Software Install/Unistall
  • Hardware Install
  • Virus and Spyware Removal

Another way to get help with your Microsoft Surface is to contact Microsoft directly. Remember that your MS Surface comes with 90 days of complementary tech support and a one year warranty. Microsoft should either address the problem or send you a replacement.

If you have any experience with Microsoft Surface tech support or warranty service, please share them in the comments section below. Good luck with fixing your Microsoft Surface!
